PORT LUDLOW FESTIVAL BY THE BAY

Bluebills will have a booth at this year's Port Ludlow Festival. We will be recruiting as well as providing information about Bluebills.

The event is July 29-30 and 31. We will be looking for volunteers to take a four-hour shift at the booth.

If you are interested contact Myron Vogt.

LOCATION: Port Ludlow

For those interested in golf, we will play a 9-hole, 4-person scramble. Skill level isn't important.  First tee time will be at 10:30. You will have to pay your own green fees.

Following golf, for all golfers and those who didn't play, there will be a short meeting and dinner. Bluebills host the dinner.

Dinner starts at 4:00 at the Bay Club in Port Ludlow 120 Spinnaker  Place.

All Bluebills and spouses and retired Boeing folk are cordially invited.  The Olympic Peninsula Bluebills also extend a warm and friendly invitation to anyone who might be interested in volunteering their time to in the Clallam, Jefferson, and Kitsap county areas.

The CEA Silent Auction

BASKETS ARE NEEDED FOR THE SILENT AUCTION

The Bluebill Christmas Giving Program provide gifts for the victims of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in three counties.  This is usually between 80 to 100 individuals.

The main source of funding for the program comes from the Community Enrichment Alliance (CEA) Silent Auction, held in November.

In the neighborhood of 500 or so items are donated each year. CEA members combine a number of these items into gift baskets.

HERE IS THE PROBLEM. THE BASKETS ARE SOLD WITH THE ITEMS AND EACH YEAR NEW BASKETS ARE NEEDED.

If anyone has baskets that can be donated to the silent auction please do so.

TO DONATE YOUR BASKETS PLEASE CONTACT:  DICK OSTLUND  437-7747  dickostlund@gmail.com

He will tell you where they can be dropped off or arrange for pickup.  Dick is the Bluebill coordinator for the Silent Auction.

HELPING OUT A VET

We recently had a request to build a ramp for a veteran with cancer. He was essentially bed-ridden and had difficulty getting out for treatment.

Unfortunately the family didn't have the means to buy the material so a source of funding was needed.

Late last year we had a meeting with the Port Townsend Legion and Elks Clubs and they offered to fund projects for needy veterans.

They stepped in and provided the material.

They have provided help on several projects in the past and it seems like we can always count on them to help a vet.

Dove House Back Packs
The Bluebills are providing students in the Dove House Program with back packs. Volunteers are needed to purchase backpacks and school supplies - estimated to be around $30). A list of supplies will be available.

If anyone is interested in participating in this project, please contact Sharon Commander at 437-2486 or Heather Gilden at 437-2498.

QUILCENE BLUEBILL MEETING

Although most of our members are in the Port Ludlow area we have a good number that reside in Clallam Co, the Quilcene and Brinnon area and Kitsap County.

One of the suggestions for improving member satisfaction, recruiting and training was to hold meetings outside of the Port Ludlow area.

Earlier this year we held a recruiting meeting and a follow-on training meeting in Sequim.

On June 15 we held a meeting for members in the Quilcene and Brinnon area. In total, 25 Bluebill and agency representatives attended.

Bob Rosen and Myron Vogt

The agenda covered changes in ramp building, grab installation and other items requested by the attendees.  It was decided to expand the school supply distribution program to eligible schools along the Hood Canal.

Thanks to Bob Rosen for setting up the event and arranging lunch.

George Sickle and Annette Isaacson

Sometime later this year we plan a similar meeting in Kitsap County.  By Myron Vogt
